Part 11 Authentication Token

Introduction

QMetry allows user authentication with Part 11 Authentication Token for all Authentication Type users (i.e. QMetry, LDAP and SAML users) to let them use eSignature and Part 11 Compliance features together.

Business Rules

  • SAML users must use Part 11 Authentication token. SAML passwords are not supported and can not be used for Part 11 Authentication.

  • LDAP/QMetry authenticated users can use Password OR Part 11 Authentication token based on the settings done by the QMetry Super Admin under Customization > General Settings & Audit..

  • Users can generate Part 11 Authentication token only when they have Part 11 enabled eSignature project assigned to them.

  • Only super admin can enable and enforce the use of Part 11 Authentication token for LDAP/QMetry users. This is an instance level setting and once activated, it is applicable to all LDAP/QMetry authorized users.

    • With 'Activate Authentication with Part 11 Authentication Token' enabled, Part 11 Authentication only accepts the Part 11 Authentication Token.

    • With 'Activate Authentication with Part 11 Authentication Token' disabled, Part 11 Authentication only accepts the password.

Generate Part 11 Authentication Token

Part 11 Authentication Token is used as an alternative of password to authenticate users' identity. Users holding QMetry/LDAP/SAML authentication type can use the token to get themselves authenticated and perform events like approve test case/test execution run, close test execution run and carry out executions for eSignature projects with Part 11 Compliance enabled.

This token is applicable for eSignature projects with Part 11 Compliance enabled.

  1. For SAML authenticated users: SAML users must use this token for Part 11 Authentication as SAML passwords can not be used for for the same.

  2. For LDAP and QMetry authenticated users: By default the authentication requires passwords. To use this token for Part 11 authentication, the QMetry admin needs to enable the option 'Activate Authentication with Part 11 Authentication Token' under Customization > General Settings & Audit.

Users can generate the Part 11 Authentication Token from User Profile.

Note:

  • The Part 11 Authentication Token section is visible on User Profile page only if the eSignature app is purchased.

  • Users can generate the token only if they have access to the Part 11 enabled project.

Steps:

1. Go to the User Profile and locate the Part 11 Authentication Token section on the screen.

2. If you are generating the token for the first time, click Generate to generate the token.

The token is displayed. You can easily copy the token by clicking on the Copy icon and use it for authenticating the actions being performed for the eSignature and Part 11 Compliance enabled projects.

You can re-generate the token by clicking on the Refresh icon.

Activate Part 11 Authentication Token for QMetry/LDAP Users

The Authentication with Part 11 Authentication Token option is useful for QMetry and LDAP users to carry out operations when the eSignature and Part 11 Compliance features are enabled for the project. Once the Part 11 Authentication Token is activated, the LDAP/QMetry users can use Part 11 Authentication Token for authentication as a substitute of their password while approving, closing test cases/test suites, and performing executions.

This settings is applicable at client level and impacts all the projects of that QMetry client.

Note: The option to activate Part 11 Authentication Token is not applicable to SAML users. SAML users can directly go to their User Profile and generate the Part 11 Authentication Token without any configuration.

Permissions Required:

  • Super Admin (the first user who registered for QMetry), can activate the Part 11 Authentication Token for QMetry and LDAP authenticated users on the instance.

Steps:

  1. Go to Customization > General Settings & Audit > General Settings. You will find the Authentication with Part 11 Authentication Token section at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Enable the Activate Authentication with Part 11 Authentication Token option if you want to provide LDAP/QMetry users an option to use Part 11 Authentication Token instead of password during the authentication process. This option is not applicable to SAML users as aforesaid. They can authenticate only using Part 11 Authentication Token which is generated from their user profile.

Using Part 11 Authentication Token

Whenever users approve test case/test execution run, close test execution run or perform test executions, an authentication pop-up appears asking for Username and Password/Part 11 Authentication Token.

The operation is carried out only after the successful authentication of the user. The purpose is to have only authenticated users in the organization to carry out the operations.

→ For SAML authenticated users: SAML users must use the Part 11 Authentication Token for Part 11 Authentication as SAML passwords can not be used for for the same.

→ For LDAP and QMetry authenticated users: By default the authentication requires passwords. To use the Part 11 Authentication Token for Part 11 Authentication, the QMetry admin needs to enable the option 'Activate Authentication with Part 11 Authentication Token' under Customization > General Settings & Audit.
