Import from Excel

Import from Excel

Overview

You can import requirements and test cases stored in standard Excel or CSV formats. Once you have access to a specific project in QMetry and the necessary rights for import, you can import these assets into the system.

There are three major steps involved in importing from Excel:

  1. Convert the requirement or test case file (XLS, XLSX, CSV) format into QMetry field format to make it compatible with QMetry.

  2. Import the XLSX, XLS, or CSV file into QMetry by mapping the QMetry fields with XLSX, XLS, or CSV columns.

  3. Verify that the imported requirements or test cases are displayed in QMetry as you expected.

Definition

Import is the creation of test assets for the first time. Import always creates version 1.

Re-import allows bulk updates of existing test assets. This saves time when a bulk edit option is not available. For requirements and test cases, re-importing automatically increments their version by 1, ensuring proper version control.

Supported Formats

XLS, CSV, XLSX

XLS, CSV, XLSX

What can be imported?

2. Test Cases
3. Issues

What is mandatory to be mapped?

1. Summary and all mandatory fields.
2. Folder Paths if the assets are to be arranged in different folders.
3. Fields that are not mapped will be empty.

1. The Entity Key should be mapped to ID.
2. Summary and all mandatory fields.
3. If there is no change in Folder Paths, prefer not to Map it. Map only if there are changes to folder path and you want to move assets from one folder to another.
4. For test cases or requirements, unmapped fields will be picked from the previous version of the corresponding test asset.
