Search Test Cases

Go to Test Management > Test Case tab. Users can search for test cases on the Test Case tab. Various filters are available to search the Test Cases. The filter will be applied to the selected Test Case Folder on the tree.

A. Search Test Cases

You can use the search feature to locate the required test case(s) in the current project. The search will check for the mentioned text in the Key and Summary fields of the test case by default. You can also opt to cover the fields/sections like Description, Precondition, and Test Step (including Parameters) to look for the mentioned text.

The search will occur in the latest version of test cases of the same project. The set search preference gets preserved for the user. The user can modify the search preferences anytime afterward.

Shareable test cases can be searched only on Test Step, as they do not contain Description and Precondition.

Use Case: Testers want to search test cases with a specific word within the Test Case Key, Test Summary, Description, Precondition, and Test Step of the test case. When the project includes a large number of test cases, the feature helps testers locate the required test cases quickly with a particular text.

Steps

1. Open the Test Case module.

2. Click on the Search icon at the top.

3. Enter text to search in the search text box.

The search will check for the mentioned text in the Key and Summary fields of the test case by default. You can opt to cover additional fields/sections to look for the mentioned text.

4. Open the Include drop-down to select Description, Precondition, and Test Step fields/sections to extend the search to those fields/sections of the test case.

5. Press the ENTER key on the keyboard.

The search will return the test case records that include the search text in their Summary, Description, Precondition, and Test Step fields/sections.

Click Save Filter to save the filter.

The Save Filter pop-up opens.

Enter Filter Name on the pop-up.

Filters can be saved with visibility either Public or Private.

  • Public: Filter saved with Public visibility will be visible to all the users of the project. Moreover, the results of these saved Public filters can be shared through the URL with other users of same Jira instance. Users who have access to that project can view the filter results by opening the URL. The URL links can also be integrated on other documentation sites as required.

  • Private: Filter saved with Private visibility will be visible only to the currently logged-in user.

Use Case: A project admin wants to restrict the number of Public filters that are visible to all users in the Filter list. Filters created by one user may not be that much useful to other users, hence, the user opts to make the filter “Private” to avoid a long list of saved Filters.

Click Submit.

Now the filter is saved and applied.

A. Filter saved appears on the drop-down.

B. Copy Filter: You can copy the existing filter and save it with another name.

C. Share Filter: You can share a Public filter with other users and integrate the URL on the documentation site as well. Read more about Share Public Filter URL.

D. Update Filter: You can edit the current filter.

E. Reset Filter Values: You can reset/clear the criteria of the saved filter.

F. Remove All Filters: You can clear all the applied filters.

Share Public Filter URL

The Share Filter option is provided to share the results of the saved Public filters through URL with other users of same Jira instance. Users who have access to that project and Test Case View permissions can view the filter results by opening the URL. The URL links can also be integrated on other documentation sites as required.

On clicking on Share Filter, the success message appears “URL copied successfully.”

This copied URL can then be shared with other users.

Users can copy the URL in browser and access the filter results, if they are already logged into QTM4J same instance.
