Configure Rally in QMetry

Notes:

  • Only one Integration system can be configured with a single QMetry project at a time.

  • Only Cloud (SaaS version) of Rally is supported.

  • The Integration with Rally is done via Rally API; however, in Jira, it's done via App.

Rally Configuration

1. Go to Integration > Integration Configuration.

2. Choose “Rally” as Integration Type.

3. Enter the following details.

  • Alias Name: Enter Rally alias name.

  • Rally URL: Enter Rally URL.

  • Rally API Key: Enter the API Key generated in Rally to authenticate the user. Refer to API Key Generation Guidelines. Refer to Generate Rally API Key below.

4. Click Test to ensure successful connection and then click "Save".

Generate Rally API Key:

1. Go to your Rally instance.

2. Click on Create New API Key.

3. A row with the API Key is added under My Keys on the screen. Use this API Key to configure Rally in QMetry.

Verify Rally Integration

Go to Integration > Integrations.

The Rally configuration is displayed as Active.

Sync fields to Reports

Note: The feature is only available to the customers who have opted for the Advanced Reports App.

Admin can opt for syncing the mapped custom fields of external tracker to the reports. You can include Rally's custom fields of Defects and User Stories in QMetry Insight tables for both Visual and Advance Query Reports to create a custom report with UDFs.

If the option is turned “On”, then the mapped custom fields for Issues and Requirements modules will be synced in the QMetry Insight module.

If the options is turned “Off”, then the synced fields in the QMetry Insight module will be removed.

Use Case: Project admin wants to create a custom report in QMetry Insights using Rally's custom fields, which are mapped n Project Integration Screen (Projects > Project/Release/Cycle > Integration).

→ Permission required: Users with Integration “Modify” rights can enable/disable the sync.

Notes:

  • Once you have enabled/disabled the option for an external tracker integration, you can change the state of that option for that integration only after 8 hours.

  • Once you have enabled/disabled the option for one external tracker integration, you can enable/disable the option for other integrations only after 4 hours.

  • You can not disable the Sync Fields to Reports option in the midst once the syncing is initiated and in-progress.

  • Only those external UDFs which are mapped under Project > Integrations tab will be synced in the QMetry Insight module.

  • Maximum 1000 UDFs (including internal and external UDFs) are allowed to sync for the QMetry Insight module.

  • The syncing of fields to reports are done at instance level. Hence, all the users of the projects with which the external tracker is integrated, can see the synced UDFs in the QMetry Insight module.

  • If the integration with the external tracker is removed, the UDFs will also be stopped showing in the QMetry Insight module.

Steps:

1. Go to Integrations and open the Integrations tab.

2. Turn the Sync fields to Reports option “On” for the integration to sync mapped external custom fields to QMetry Insights. By default, the option remains “Off”.

Map Rally Project, Issue Types and Fields with QMetry Project

Map a Single Rally Project with QMetry Project

These steps have to be performed in QMetry by Login as QMetry Project Admin :

  1. Go to Projects > Project/Release/Cycle

2. Open the Project > Integration tab.

3. Select “Rally” as Integration Type.

4. Select the Rally Instance with which this QMetry project mapping has to be done.

5. Select the Workspace in Rally. The projects under the workspace populate in the adjacent drop-down accordingly.

6. Select the Rally project to configure with this QMetry Project.

7. Once the Project is selected, select Issue Type <> QMetry Module associations. The issue type is a multi-select list. If requirement is mapped, select a folder to import requirements.

8. Click on Save and Activate.

The mapping of QMetry modules with Rally Issue Type(s) is saved for the Rally Project.

Map multiple Rally projects from a single Rally instance with one QMetry project

QMetry allows multiple Rally projects to be configured with one QMetry project. Below are the steps for the same :

  1. Go to Projects > Project/Release/Cycle

  2. Open the Project > Integration tab.

  3. Select the Rally URL with which this QMetry project configuration has to be done.

  4. Select the Rally Workspace and then Rally project to configure with QMetry Project.

  5. Map Rally Issue Types to QMetry Modules.

Map Rally Issue types to QMetry modules

  1. Once the Project is selected, if you are managing your project requirements as User Story, you should select the Issue Types "User Story" to be associated with the Requirement module. Selection of Issue Type is a multi select filter, which allows you to select multiple issue types and map with the requirement module. Selection of the folder where the imported issues will be created is mandatory. The first time sync will import all the issues to the selected folder. These issues can later on be moved to other folders in QMetry where any changes done to the issues will be synced. However, all the new stories that are not part of QMetry will be synced into the selected folder.

  2. To map issue types like bugs or tasks to Issue module, users can select Issue Types associated to Issue module. This is a multi-select filter. The issue types that are mapped with Requirement module can not be mapped with the Issue module and vice-versa. The issues that would be imported and synced with QMetry, would be visible in Issue module with the external key indicating the Rally Issue Key.

  3. Click on Save and Activate/update once the configuration is done.  ("Update" if Rally integration was already Saved and Activated for the QMetry project.)

  4. Go to Integrations > Integration Scheduler Status and check the syncing of Requirement, Issue and Metadata is completed.

Map multiple Rally projects from multiple Rally instance with one QMetry project

QMetry allows multiple Rally instances to be configured with one QMetry project. Below are the steps for the same:

  1. Go to Projects > Project/Release/Cycle

  2. Open the Project > Integration tab.

  3. Select the Rally instance with which this QMetry project configuration has to be done.

  4. Configure the projects > Save and Activate the Integration.

  5. Once the Project is selected, select Issue Type <> QMetry Module associations. The issue type is a multi-select list. If the requirement is mapped, select folder to import requirements.

  6. Select another Rally instance from the Rally Instance list.

7. Configure the projects > Save and Activate the integration.

8. Once the Project is selected, select Issue Type <> QMetry Module associations. The issue type is a multi-select list. If the requirement is mapped, select a folder to import requirements.

This way you can integrate multiple Rally instances with QMetry Project.

Map QMetry Folder to Import Requirements

Project Admin has to select a folder of their choice during Rally configuration to import requirements from Rally into QMetry. Requirements already imported earlier will remain intact in their respective folders. New requirements will be imported in the folder selected during Rally configuration.

If the user changes already set folder, then a pop-up appears asking confirmation on changing the destination folder for new requirements that are being imported. The impact will be -

  • Only new requirements will be moved to the synced folder.

  • Requirements imported earlier will remain in their assigned folder only.

Copy / Move the Synced Folder

  • On Copy/Move Folder, it will move folder to the new folder and update folder mapping on the Project screen as well.

Archive Folder

  • Folders with external entities in it can not be archived. User can move the imported requirements to other folders and then can archive the folder.

  • The folder that synced during Rally integration for import of requirements can not be archived.

  • In bulk archive folder, the folders having external entity will be skipped. Sub-folders of this folder will also be skipped from bulk archive even they do not have external entities in them.

Change Mapping of Issue Type with Requirement module

Scenario 1. Issue Type mapped with Requirement is replaced with another Issue Type

Issues synced based on the earlier mapping will be converted into internal issues and they will no more be Rally issues.

New issues will be synced as requirements as per the changed Issue Type.

Scenario 2. In addition to existing Issue Type, another Issue Type is mapped with Requirement

Issues synced based on the earlier mapping will remain intact as Rally issues.

New issues will be synced as requirements as per the added Issue Type.

Configure Custom Rally fields for QMetry Module

QMetry displays default Rally issue fields in QMetry Modules. Project Admin can choose to display Rally custom fields as per project needs. Configuration of custom fields has to be done separately for every configured Rally Project and Issue Type. All Rally custom fields/UDFs are supported.

Below are the steps :

Note: In case QMetry does not display a Rally field in the configuration screen - "Sync" project data to configure the field.

  1. Configure custom fields for Requirements and Issues.

  2. Sync Rally data to QMetry. For example, newly created custom fields, etc.

A. Sync All: It will sync all issues irrespective of their updated-date.

B. Sync: It will sync only those issue values which are recently updated in Rally based on their updated-date.

You can sync the mapped Rally custom fields in the QMetry Insight module for Visual Reports and Advanced Query Reports. Read more about Sync fields to Reports above.

Note : At least one of the Rally Project should be integrated with Issue Module. Once Rally is integrated with the QMetry project, the internal issue module will be disappeared from the QMetry project.

View Rally Integration Status

Users can view all the integrated Rally instances, their associated QMetry projects, and their current Status - either Active or Inactive.
